Kannaviou Reservoir in 2025
The other day the sun was out so I thought I would drive down the road to see Kannaviou Reservoir. You will find it at the top end of the Ezousa Valley. And while it is very scenic and beautiful at the moment, it is also not very full. Let's take a look...
Reservoir View

Kannaviou is a very pretty reservoir, set at the edge of Paphos Forest. The trees and hills stretch for miles and miles behind it, eventually merging with the Troodos Mountains. Often in Cyprus, you will find the word "forest" used to describe a mere copse, or in the case of Militis Forest at the edge of the Akamas, an out-of-control shrubbery. But Paphos Forest really delivers the goods, and Kannaviou Reservoir looks all the better for it.
White Collar Water

When the reservoir is full, all the white bits are covered with water. There are currently a lot of white bits, which is not good. A look at the Reservoir Water Levels shows that it is 30% full. A year ago it was 50%.
Whirlpools

The three white dots you can see are whirlpools, where the water is extracted from the reservoir to be used by the good people of Paphos. Technically, it concentrates on the area between here and upper Peyia. There is a big pipe that runs through Polemi near our villa. I came aware of it when a Bulldozer was digging a ditch in the road outside our home to lay a drainage pipe. They cut through the water pipe and it caused a water fountain that looked like it came straight out of a Wiley E Coyote cartoon.
Distant Kritou Marottou

In the hills beyond the Kannaviou Dam you can just make out the village of Kritou Marottou. I've recently started doing some long-form driving films which explore the Paphos Countryside. They are about 50 minutes long, though there is no hard-and-fast rule. Along with the footage, I burble on about the countryside and have a few musical interludes. You can view the most recent one here: Another Drive Through The Paphos Countryside. I am going to have to come up with a better naming convention though.
Anyway, I mention this because after I flew the drone I took a long and circuitous route back to Polemi which features the countryside above Kritou Marottou and the villages on the way to the B7 by the Evretou Reservoir. So look out for that in the near future.
Ezousa Bloom

The Ezousa Valley itself looks lovely and green at the moment. It isn't the easiest valley to explore in Paphos. If you want a nice long valley drive, go up the Diarizos on the way to Kouklia.
