Avakas Gorge and Last Castle Access
People Walking Down

Indeed, I initially parked topside and looked down. However, it soon became clear to me that the track had been improved. It is still very bumpy, and I wouldn't recommend it to a regular car, but if you have a 4x4 then you can certainly drive to the original Avakas Car Park from this direction now.

Road Closed

The road from the gorge to Last Castle is closed from the bottom end too, as you would expect.
To The Gorge

It was nice to be down here again. When I am fully over my tonsilitis I will have a walk up there, and do a full report. Not today though.
Resting Place

There were a couple of walkers here though, and a jeep safari truck also arrived, so people are still getting here.
The Map

This map shows how to get to Avakas Gorge and Last Castle via the route mentioned in this film. We will publish a film later so you can see more clearly where we went. If you want to see the gorge, park on the near side at the top and you can walk down to it, unless you have a 4x4. It is an ideal time to visit too, before the weather gets too hot.

eBookCyprus Road Trip 01: the Kathikas - Panagia Loop
Let me take you on a journey around the region of Paphos, Cyprus. Starting at Paphos itself, we travel to Akoursos, then Kathikas, Kritou Terra and Simou. We continue past Lasa and Kannaviou, before taking in the delights of Panagia. Getting a bit more adventurous, we visit the abandoned villages of Statos and Agios Fotios, before passing through Choulou, Letymbou and Polemi, and rejoining the main Paphos - Polis road.
The route is suitable for all types of vehicle, and requires no off-roading. The guide contains about 130 photographs including shots of all the road signs you need to pay attention to, as well as some of the highlights you may experience along the way.
There are also several maps which will help you keep your bearings.
You can do this journey in a day, or you can break it up into chunks. You can also do it in reverse, to get some completely different views. It is entirely up to you.
