The Aloe Hotel In 2024
The Aloe Hotel closed in 2020. Since then it has remained derelict, home only to pigeons and the occasional rat. At one point reports stated that a tower was going to be built to complement the one next door. Is that still the case? Let's go and take a wander through the corridors to see what we can find...
View From The Road

Recent drone flights around the area of SODAP Beach had puzzled me. Naturally enough I took some pictures of the tower, but I also noted the start of a new building to the East of it. I wrote an article on the Aloe last winter, and from what I read while researching it, they were going to knock it down and build a tower there. So why is it on the other side?
Rent A Bike

To get a better idea of what was happening, I decided to visit the hotel again. This time the aim was to get to the roof, and see what I could see from there. While walking around to the side of the building, I couldn't help but notice this bike leaning against a wall. Apparently it is an electric bike which you can rent. I don't know if it is still an active service; it looked a bit rusty.
Around Back

Anyway, leaving the bike behind, I made my way around to the rear of the hotel. The area is in remarkably clean, which was a bit of a surprise.
The Pool Area

I've always been a fan of Urban Exploring, and an abandoned hotel is a fine example.
Natural Beauty

It's nice to observe the vegetation return to its natural state, free from the pruner's gaze. It does make navigation a bit difficult in some circumstances though.
