Aftermath of the Aloe Hotel Fire
Earlier in the month there was a fire in the old, abandoned Aloe Hotel. Yesterday I went for a walk around the site to see its extent and to ponder on the future of this once-great etablishment.
From Above

I visited the site twice after the fire. The first time was last thursday, when I went to fly my drone around it. The reports in the press said it started on the first floor and went through the second and third. You can see the smoke damage on the outside rear here.
Front View

Judging on the view from the front, the fire was primarily located to the rear. I have seen nothing to suggest what caused it though. In previous site visits I had observed that the rooms were all nearly empty and stripped of their furnishings, so fortunately there wasn't a great deal to burn. My guess as to the cause would be that some homeless person was squating there and had lit a fire to keep warm, which had gotten out of hand. However, I should state that I say that without any evidence whatsoever, and that I am purely speculating.
Ground Floor

After I flew the drone, I had a little nose around.
The Main Lobby

Walking through the front door revealed a fair amount of water in the lobby area. I don't remember this from previous visits, so presume it was due to the fire brigade.
Unscathed

The ground floor itself was unscathed though, aside from the water. There was no sign of any fire damage here. I didn't investigate any further on this visit though, as the fire was still a fairly recent event. Yesterday though, I posted the drone footage I had recorded and people were interested in it, so I returned to take some more pictures. I had also noticed that there was an indoor pool which I had hitherto not explored, and I wanted to check that out.
